Dr. Mark Perazella, medical director of the Yale School of Medicine Physician Assistant Online Program and the Yale Physician Associate Program, is researching a health issue of growing importance: the impact of intense exercise on the kidneys. Perazella senses that “with more people doing more strenuous things like ultramarathons, kidney injury is happening more often.”
On March 12, 2018, the inaugural Yale PA Online class held their White Coat Ceremony on the Yale Campus, the first of many traditions to be established by the pioneering class. On this special occasion, 42 students gathered before their families, friends, and professors inside Yale’s Battell Chapel to receive the white coats that symbolize the beginning of their journey as future physician assistants.
In 1992, when Mary Showstark was 12 years old, Hurricane Andrew nearly ripped the roof off her family’s house in Miami. Today, Showstark specializes in disaster response, serving with the National Disaster Medical System External link and other medical relief organizations. For National PA Week we spoke to Showstark about her deployment to provide medical care after earthquakes and hurricanes all over the world.
